A Paarl Street resident was informed by the Lekwa Municipality that it does not have the funds to cut a tree.
The tree has cracks on it and is close to the power lines, with some branches between the lines.
The resident is worried about the potential danger the tree poses.
“The tree might fall on the neighbours or children passing in the street.”
According to her, Lekwa acknowledged the danger presented by the tree.
“With the winds at the moment, I believe it is going to tumble as there are huge cracks running up on the front of the tree,” she said.
She decided to contact the municipality and they sent workers out to see.
According to them, they would have to get a crane, cordon off the street and also disconnect the power to that area to be able to do the job.
If the tree does fall, it will damage all the power lines and also the housing next door.
The Standerton Advertiser sent questions to Ms Thobeka Mtshiselwa, Lekwa communications manager, on 17 October, but no response was received at the time of going to press.
