Search continues for third kitten that was dumped in Trichardt

During their search for the missing kittens, they stumbled upon the charred remains of two puppies

TRICHARDT – A man walking to work, found a tightly knotted plastic bag containing three kittens in the bushes in Trichardt on Friday morning, 19 October.

The worker of Silverton Radiators heard the distressed mews of the kittens, found the bag and opened it.

Two of the three tiny kittens inside scattered, but the third was just sitting there. The man reported his discovery to his employer.

Ms Nicolette van Zyl of Feral Watch TNR said the kittens are only about five weeks old.

She was called in to help and was then also shown where the kittens were dumped.

“A cardboard box was placed on top of the plastic bag next to a tree near the church in the middle of the town.”

One of the kittens found inside a tied up plastic bag in Trichardt.

A search for the two other babies was launched and the search party eventually found a second kitten behind a palisade fence under building rubble. The third kitten is still missing.

“I can only hope that someone out there rescued her too,” said Ms Van Zyl.

“How can anyone be so cruel? These kittens can barely eat by themselves.”

Ms Van Zyl was further shocked when, during their search for the missing kittens, they stumbled upon the charred remains of two puppies.

“The puppies must have been really small and recently killed. It appears that they had been set alight. It so disturbing,” Ms Van Zyl told the newspaper.

She said the dumped kittens need a lot of attention now, but will be up for adoption within a few weeks.

Anyone with information about the third kitten, presumably a calico, or who wants to support Feral Watch, can contact Ms Van Zyl at 082 781 9435.
