Head-on collision claims a life

Motorists are urged to avoid the Graceland to eMbalenhle road or use the alternative dirt road

eMBALENHLE – An accident involving two light motor vehicles occurred at 2:22pm on the Graceland to eMbalenhle road.
Six adults and two children were involved.
According to police officials, two adults are critically injured and the others sustained minor injuries and fractures. At this stage, emergency officials are on scene and people travelling on the road are asked to use the alternative dirt road adjacent to the road affected.
It is alleged at this stage that one of the motorists had fallen asleep behind the wheel causing the head-on collision. Jaws of life were used to remove the deceased from one of the vehicles who was allegedly the driver.
The police plead with drivers to take care on the roads and ensure that drivers are awake at all times behind the wheel.
Capt Bettina Zondo, Secunda Police Station spokesman who was on the scene, said: “People must be very cautious when they drive on the roads, avoid drinking and driving and don’t use your cellphone.
Refrain from overtaking on barrier lines.
Drivers must respect road signs and the rules of the roads.”
“The public should stop taking pictures of accidents and posting it on social media. This can cause shock to the families who might recognise those involved.” Capt Zondo added.
