Girls were taught life skills during the Soar Girl Child event

eMBALENHLE – Soar Girl Child recently held the Talitha Koum Women’ Empowerment event at the eMbalenhle Sasol Club.

Soar Girl Child is a group of young girls who aim at helping disadvantaged girls in Govan Mbeki Municipality.

The goal was to equip girls with various skills, such as confidence, resilience and leadership.

Ms Phillipine Manthata, founder, said the girls were taught about the importance of goal setting, vision and education.

“Our mission is to impact the lives of young disadvantaged girls, to build a sisterhood, be one integrated unit helping each other to rise against all odds and give one another support through each other’s journey.

“Our vision is to impact a million lives in the next 10 years.

“We appreciate everyone who partnered with us: Tinki Tonki Pre-primary School, Dr Raman, Olletta Tintswalo Ntshane, Prima Stationery, Vaal Varsity College Secunda, Fortress College in Evander who also gave the Grade 12 girls an opportunity to have free extra classes in preparation of their final exams worth more than R15 300.

“Destiny magazine gave us 110 copies, Love Life sponsored squeeze bottles, pens and pencil cases, Dr Sbongile Bodiba and friends gave sanitory ware to add to the goodie bags, Pricono Catering and Nethel Simelane prepared the meal.
