UPDATE – Henk Swanepoel recovering after accident in Meyerville

People on the scene were speculating that the woman was pregnant, however, this information could not be confirmed.

UPDATE – 25 September 2018. 2.30pm.

Police have released the name of the deceased in yesterday’s accident, she was identified as Ms Jani Grobler.

Her fiancé, Mr Henk Swanepoel (28), who was traveling with her, was transferred from the Standerton Hospital to Mar-Peh Medi-Care late on the evening of 24 September.

According to the staff at the clinic, Mr Swanepoel is in a stable condition and sustained head lacerations and abrasions on his back, accompanied by bruises to his body.

Speculation about whether Ms Grobler was pregnant, was denied by a close friend of Mr Swanepoel.

A woman died after an accident in Meyerville this afternoon, 24 September at around 5pm.

According to information received from the police, she was travelling with her husband (unconfirmed) in a Ford bakkie, when a vehicle driving in the opposite direction, allegedly swerved for a pothole, went into their lane and crashed into them, which in turn allegedly caused the bakkie to roll.

A taxi transporting 12 passengers, that trailed the vehicle, then also crashed into the bakkie.

People on the scene were speculating that the woman was pregnant, however, this information could not be confirmed.

The woman’s husband is said to be in a critical condition and the driver of the taxi also sustained injuries.

The condition of the other passengers could not be confirmed.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released as it is not clear if the next of kin have been informed.

The accident scene has in the meantime been cleared up.
