Sapromo says GMM mayor is incompetent

Sakhisizwe Progressive Movement say Ms Thandi Ngxonono is dragging the municipality down.

HIGHVELD – Sakhisizwe Progressive Movement is not pleased with Ms Thandi Ngxonono, executive mayor, and believes she has failed in her duties.

This came after the party had deliberations over the state of Govan Mbeki Municipality.

The party concluded that Ms Ngxonono has failed to provide efficient and relevant services to residents of the municipality.

Mr Orlando Skhosana, acting spokesman of Sapromo, said the mayor has failed again in a legislative mandate to provide a democratic and accountable government for communities, to provide adequate services to communities and to promote a safe and healthy environment where social and economic development can take place.

“Sapromo considered with great concern that the mayor has ignored the fact that the municipality exists because the citizens have elected her to be there.

“The mayor has failed to address communities and to come up with solutions for all our concerns as residents of Govan Mbeki Municipality.

“Therefore, we have exercised our right as members of the progressive movement, through our councillor, to request that the council remove the mayor from office in order to make sure that our taxes are used for proper service delivery.

“Sapromo is tired of the inconsistent electricity supply, the rivers of sewer spills in the streets and potholes.

“Our rights as residents are not taken seriously by this mayor and she has overstayed her welcome.”

Mr Skhosana said his party believes other councillors will support the motion of no confidence once it has been tabled.

“We also request members of the public to support this motion through social media sharing. Let it trend on every media platform so it can be known that we are tired of this mayor and her administration. We need changes in this municipality and we demand it now.”

Mr Sibusiso Hlolweni, president of Sapromo, said his party has noted that services delivery has deteriorated since Ms Ngxonono has taken over. He raised his concerns over alleged cases of corruption and no criminal charges being laid against the culprits.

“Maladministration and negligence by the administration are now at their highest peak and make the mayor unfit to lead the municipality.

“Residents of Govan Mbeki Municipality, especially those in townships, are living with interrupted electricity services and the mayor has absolutely no plan on how she is going to remedy the situation.

“This has a very negative affect on the future of this municipality.

“People are going to lose jobs because the business community might move from the area and investors might be scared to invest in the area.

“A good example of this was the burning of the Mall@eMba during a service delivery protest.

“It is clear that we might experience other protests as the standard of services continues to drop.”
