Omnia Group’s mining division, BME, helps Carolina’s Siphakamile Combined School’s kitchen from shutting down

The shutting down of the kitchen would have meant that most of the learners would go without their nutritious meal of the day and for most this is the only meal they get.

Omnia Group’s mining division, BME, donated a brand-new furnished kitchen and a Grade R classroom to Siphakamile Combined School near Carolina on Wednesday, 5 September.

The donation came after the Department of Health was ready to shut down the farm school’s kitchen because it was deemed a health hazard.

The shutting down of the kitchen would have meant that most of the learners would have gone without their nutritious meal of the day and for most this is the only meal they get.

The donation is valued at over R100 000 and will contribute towards the learners of the school achieving their full potential without having to worry about where their daily meal will come from.

“BME has brought a big change to the Siphakamile School staff and the learner’s lives as the donation has brought dignity and integrity to the school,” the jubilant principal, Mr Mabuza, said.

The teachers, learners, school governing body representatives and parents present during the handing over were not short of praises and giving thanks to BME.

“We are always working towards making the world better for our employees, for the communities we operate in, and for the environment,” said the operations manager of BME Carolina, Mr Piet Phago.
