Deputy President, Mr DD Mabuza, opened a case of defamation of character at eMbalenhle Police Station

eMBALENHLE – Mr DD Mabuza, Deputy President, opened a case of defamation of character at eMbalenhle Police Station against people who have been allegedly spreading rumours against him over the years.

Reliable sources informed the Ridge Times that among the accused, is a bishop who allegedly accused Mr Mabuza of being a murderer and putting his “girlfriend”, Ms Refilwe Mtsweni, as his successor as the Mpumalanga premier.

It is alleged that the bishop made this allegation at an ANC event that was held at the Kgotso Hall in Extension 12 two weeks ago.

Brig Leonard Hlathi, police provincial spokesman, confirmed that Mr Mabuza personally opened a case on Saturday, 11 August.

“Yes, a case was opened and we are investigating.

“We will collect all the statements and thereafter take them to the director of public prosecution for a decision.

“At this stage we cannot mention the implicated people.”

The Ridge Times contacted the bishop who confirmed that he heard that a case was opened against him.

“I have not received any call from the police so I take this as an allegation.

“Even Mr Mabuza has not called me yet, he has my number.

“I know what I said at that event but I will not comment.”
