Local taxi fares in Ermelo increase due to petrol hikes and VAT

South African motorists saw yet another petrol price increase this month.

This pushed prices to record levels in July.

According to the Department of Energy, petrol increased with 82 cents a litre for the 93 and 05 octane fuel, while diesel hiked between 85 and 87 cents per litre.

Illuminating paraffin went up by 82 cents.

The official petrol price is R15-54 per litre for 93 octane, and R15-79 per litre for 95 octane. Diesel costs R14-19 per litre.

Value Added Tax is currently at 14 per cent of the value of goods and services in South Africa.

The Ermelo Taxi Association wishes for commuters to work with them and said they are also bearing the brunt of the petrol hikes.
