Scammers target sexual offence victims

“The scammers allegedly call the victims of sexual offences claiming to be from the police demanding money to investigate their ongoing cases,” Const Zwane said.

The Sakhile and Standerton Police in conjunction with the Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, warned residents against a scam syndicate on 16 July.

According to Const Duduzile Zwane, communications officer of the Sakhile Police, a syndicate has been operating in Sakhile and Standerton.

“The scammers allegedly call the victims of sexual offences claiming to be from the police demanding money to investigate their ongoing cases,” Const Zwane said.

Police urge the community to be vigilant when receiving such calls.

Anyone who has been approached or contacted by such a syndicate, should contact the nearest police station.
