Township Youth Transformation present Winter School Programme to assist grade 12 learners at Lindile Secondary School

The students helped the grade 12 learners at Lindile Secondary School with STEM subjects during the winter holidays.

Township Youth Transformation (TYT) and a team of university students hosted winter classes during the school holidays to assist Grade 12 learners of township schools.

This was part of their winter programme for schools in need of assistance and intervention, given the matric results of last year.

The organisation brought in an academic team of local students studying at higher learning institutions who volunteered their winter break for teaching and mentoring Grade 12s at Lindile Secondary Schools.

The students from University of the Witwatersrand, University of KwaZulu-Natal and the University of Johannesburg are studying various courses, ranging from electrical engineering to accounting.

They assisted learners in science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects (STEM).

“We saw the need to assist these learners and what better way to do this than to introduce their peers who recently had success in STEM subjects and are thriving at university level,” said the TYT chairman, Ayanda Nkosi.
