SNC Lavalin helps to fight hunger in the Govan Mbeki municipal area

SECUNDA – The teams had only 67 minutes in which to pack 12 500 meals, but they finished it in the nick of time.

The SNC Lavalin personnel in Secunda pooled their energy and enthusiasm at the Lillian Ngoyi Centre last Wednesday, 27 June to pack 12 500 meals in 67 minutes in preparation of Mandela Day on 18 July.

Mr Neil Engelbrecht, who coordinated the event, said they are supporting Rise against Hunger for their Mandela Day initiative.

“These meals, when cooked, will be enough to feed four people. We will distribute the meals to various non profitable organisations in the Govan Mbeki municipal area.”

The workers formed several production lines where the ingredients for each packet were measured, packed, sealed and eventually packed in boxes and ready for distribution.

Everyone seemed set on having fun while working and all was done in good spirit, with a bit of singing here and dancing there.

“Working together and laughing makes the load less,” said Mr Robin Richards.

His colleague, Mr Sbu Jele, was happy to have been involved in something as worthwhile as this. “We are helping others,” he said.
