[UPDATE] Protest is flaring up in eMbalenhle – Avoid the R546 road

Motorists are warned to avoid the road between Evander and Standerton that passed by eMbalenhle. Tyres are being burned in the road between Ext 12 and the turn off to Sasol Charlie 3 gate.

Motorists are warned to avoid the road between Evander and Standerton that passed by eMbalenhle.

Tyres are being burned in the road between Ext 12 and the turn off to Sasol Charlie 3 gate.

Road users should rather use the road between Sasol Charlie 5 and Charl Cilliers when travelling to and from Standerton.

UPDATE 19:30 – All entrance routes to eMbalenhle have now been barricaded.

Sifiso Mathebula from Ridge Times reported that almost all shops belonging to foreign nationals have been evacuated.

Some foreigners were seen clearing out their stock to remove it to safety.

Locals are protesting against poor service delivery.

They are fed up with all the power outages in eMbalenhle.

They also demand the removal of the acting municipal manager and they want the Govan Mbeki Municipality to be placed under administration.

The police have warned motorists to avoid the roads around eMbalenhle and to rather take alternative routes.

They said motorists living in that area should avoid driving as the situation is dangerous.

Police are monitoring the situation.

eMBALENHLE – Tyres have been set alight in the street blocking off the road from eMbalenhle towards Ozisweni late this afternoon, 24 June.

Information shared on Facebook since Friday announced that a huge protest action is planned for Monday 25 June.
