Murder accused not off the hook just yet

Mr Mathenjwa was found dead on the De Kuilen Road just outside Standerton on 25 November last year and the suspects were apprehended the same day in possession of Mr Mathenjwa's vehicle.

The murder case of Mr Sithelo Esihle Mzwandile Mathenjwa (37) was struck from the roll at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 29 May.

The five accused in the case are Messrs Themba Solomon Nhlapo (19), June Fanyana Mthembu (29) and Bongane Ngubeni, Mr Thabiso Morajane (30), Mr Absalom Masuku.

Mr Mathenjwa was found dead on the De Kuilen Road just outside Standerton on 25 November last year and the suspects were apprehended the same day in possession of Mr Mathenjwa’s vehicle.

According to Capt Fanie Nhlabathi, spokesman of the Standerton Police, they were taken into custody and the body was discovered after further investigation.

Mr Louis Thabethe, co-founder of #IAM, the human rights organisation advocating against social ills such as all forms of abuse, rape, inequality, human trafficking and xenophobia, voiced their concern about the killings, rape and crime in Standerton.

He said #Iam is disturbed about instances where cases are struck from the roll or withdrawn because of technicalities.

“In light of the countrywide violence, we would like to see criminals arrested and prosecuted speedily.

“We appeal to all the relevant powers such as the police, National Prosecuting Authority and magistrates, to finalise cases as quickly as possible.
