Sewage crisis in Rooikoppen continues

“The ANC is using politics to hamper service delivery,” Mr Masango said.

The ANC in Mpumalanga rejected a motion, tabled by the the DA, on 8 May to address the Lekwa sewage crisis.

According to Mr James Masango, DA spokesman on Cooperative Governance, the motion was aimed at addressing the sewage issue that has been going on for the past nine years.

“The ANC is using politics to hamper service delivery,” Mr Masango said.

The DA requested an intervention from the South African Human Rights Commission in 2016.

Mr Masango also said it is deeply concerning that the ANC would allow the people of Lekwa to continue living under such inhumane conditions, where their health and safety is under threat.

Shukuma Primary School Governing Body (SGB) members voiced their anger.

“We have been reporting the matter to the municipality for more than five years, but nothing is done,” Ms Busi Ngubeni, SGB member, said.
