BETHAL – Residents have been complaining about a hole in Malherbe Street that nearly covers the two lanes, causing motorists to drive on the other side of the road to miss it.
A pipe of some sort is also sticking out of the hole and sand heap.
According to Ms Marietjie Fourie, DA councillor, this hole has been in Malherbe Street for about four months.
She reported it to the municipality four months ago and regularly in the past four months. The municipality only acknowledged receipt of the complaint and has done nothing about the problem.
“It poses a danger to motorists, especially at night because there are also no street lights,” said Ms Fourie.
The Ridge Times sent the municipal manager, Mr Thisha Mhlanga, an e-mail on Monday, 7 May about the hole and asked whether the municipality was aware of it, why the hole has been left like that for four months and whether it would be fixed.
He did not respond at time of going to press.
