MEC of Education visits Lindile Secondary School to check on renovation progress

Lindile Secondary School has had a challenging year, with teachers halting classes due to dilapidated infrastructures and a sewer system continuously spilling over onto the school premises.

Member of the Executive Council (MEC) of the Department of Education (DoE) in Mpumalanga, Mr Sibusiso Malaza, visited Lindile Secondary School on Monday, 7 May to check on the progress of renovations at the school.

Lindile Secondary School has had a challenging year, with teachers halting classes due to dilapidated infrastructures and a sewer system continuously spilling over onto the school premises.

This saw the community come together to hold a march in solidarity with the school and a memerandum was handed over to the DoE.

As previously reported by the Highvelder, the department recently released funds for the renovations and alterations.

A contractor was subsequently appointed and phase one of the basic refurbishment of the school began in earnest on 23 April.

Mr Sibusiso Malaza (MEC of Education in Mpumalanga) visited Lindile Secondary School to check on the progress of renovations at the school. Here are Nontokozo Maseko, Nonjabulo Sibanyoni, Mr Malaza, Ayanda Mavuso, Silindile Mtshali and Ndumiso Malinga.

The MEC also used the visit to plead with stakeholders to cooperate to ensure the acceleration of the project.

Mr Malaza gave the learners words of encouragement and appealed to teachers to take advantage of the time at their disposal to improve learning and teaching.

Lindile has seen a rise in results of Grade 12 learners in the past five years. The school obtained a 75,5 per cent pass rate in 2017.

Girl learners also received sanitary towels from the Imbumba Foundation on the day.
