UPDATE (21:00)

Electricity in the area around Coen Brits Street has been restored and residents are urged to switch the main switches off for a while to prevent overloading.
Houses in the areas around Danie Theron, Brandspruit and Twistsraai Streets are still without electricity.

The municipality still needs to repair a cable in those areas and continue working there tomorrow.

UPDATE (15:30)

According to Mr Bheki Kubheka from Govan Mbeki Municipality the first cable defect that affected Secunda Laerskool and the green area has just been found on the corner of OR Tambo Drive and PDP Kruger Street.

Municipal workers have begun with the excavation.

According to Cllr Mariaan Chamberlain‎, residents are requested to make other plans regarding their freezers as there are more than one fault on the cables at the mini sub-station. Govan Mbeki Municipality is working on the problem.

The electricity that comes from Eskom to the main sub-station is regulated by the three earthing cables that were stolen. Without these earthing cables, the electricity gets fed into the main sub-station unevenly and blows up on every weak spot on the cables. The only solution to this problem is to open the cable and to rejoin it again.

If there is another fault on the same cable, the mini sub-stations will keep on tripping.

Govan Mbeki Municipality said that their servers have been rebooted after the power outage and that purchasing of pre-paid electricity is now possible at any vendor.
