Social media once again exposes racial division in South Africa

Mr Louis Janse van Rensburg of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Standerton, opened a case of crimen injuria following an alleged racist comment on 3 April by a municipal employee on an article published by the Standerton Advertiser.
The comment was made after the Chairman of the Democratic Alliance, Mr Johannes van der Wath, passed away due to a heart attack.
The statement read: “Nothing is sad here, whites must die vele bayizinja.” (Roughly translated, they must die because they are dogs)
Capt Fanie Nhlabathi, spokesman of the Standerton Police, confirmed a case was opened on 12 April.

A statement on the employee’s Facebook Page, dated 13 April, said:
“Greeting good people, kindly note that my account has been hacked.
“In case you find funny, nude and unacceptable pics, messages, comments please find my apology and please let me know so I can attend to those while I am still in the process of getting assistance with my account.”
