Transformer in Secunda burns: Residents without electricity for four days

Service provider installs brand-new transformer in Olienhout Street.

SECUNDA – A transformer in Olienhout Street that caught fire on Tuesday evening, 20 March, left residents in the surrounding area without electricity for four days.

According to residents, a team of the municipality showed up an hour after the transformer began to burn and extinguished the fire.

Govan Mbeki Municipality did not have a spare transformer and requested the service provider to help them.

All the cables needed to be replaced as well.

The service provider, Nombrik, installed a brand-new transformer over the weekend and by Saturday evening, residents had electricity again.

According to Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA councillor, who kept residents informed of the progress, this is also an upgrade on the old one and works with gas.
