PEC to finalise appointment of Lekwa Mayor

The Standerton Advertiser was told, after enquiring, that the REC has been locked in meetings to finalise the matter since 26 March, but no consensus was reached and the announcement was further delayed.

The Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the ANC will announce the decision of new Executive Mayor for Lekwa on 4 April.

When the Standerton Advertiser called on 29 March to confirm the finality of the appointment, the REC spokesman, Mr Sabelo Sikhakhane, said it will be announced on Wednesday.

According to Mr Sikhakhane, meetings are ongoing and a press release stated the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) resolved to redeploy Ms Khosi Khotha as Executive Mayor on 20 March.

Ms Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, ANC provincial spokesman, confirmed the above.

The Standerton Advertiser was told, after enquiring, that the REC has been locked in meetings to finalise the matter since 26 March, but no consensus was reached and the announcement was further delayed.

According to inside sources, the PEC and REC are at loggerheads as to who should take over. The ANC made recommendations after assessing the status of municipalities’ performance across the province after the recalling of former Executive Mayor, Mr Linda Dhlamini, along with the troika on 18 March.
