Thieves burgle police barracks at eMbalenhle, steal vehicle

Two men suspected of burglary at the police barracks in eMbalenhle, were arrested yesterday, 20 February, after a high speed chase.

Two men suspected of burglary at the police barracks in eMbalenhle, were arrested yesterday, 20 February, after a high speed chase.

A police constable coming off from night shift discovered that his barracks’ room had been burgled during the night. His vehicle was also stolen from the police station yard.

Members of Secunda Flying Squad and Secunda K9 Unit responded to the complaint.

The stolen vehicle was fitted with a tracker and was activated. The police then tracked it through eMbalenhle.

When the suspects spotted the police, they tried to speed away and high speed chase ensued. The suspects eventually stopped the vehicle and jumped out in an attempt to escape, but the police caught and arrested them.

According to Capt Bettinah Zondo, police spokesperson, the suspects allegedly sold all the items which were stolen, including a plasma TV during the morning. The police recovered all the items.

“The suspects’ home was searched and a police bullet proof vest, pepper spray, police cap, police pocket book and seven rubber shot gun rounds were found in a room.”

Cases were opened accordingly and the suspects are being detained at eMbalenhle Police Station.
