Izikhothanes battle of possessions

These 'battles' are performed using material items such as money, mobile phones, clothes and alcohol.

The Standerton Advertiser had a candid interview on 6 February with Izikhothane or Skhotane about its crazed phenomena.

Red Bull Chaos, a local group, opened up in much detail about what a Skhothane entails.

Izikhothane, Skhothane or Ukukhothana refers to South African showmanship of dance battles in which individuals or groups of individuals compete against each other in front of large crowds to determine which party is the wealthier.

These ‘battles’ are performed using material items such as money, mobile phones, clothes, alcohol and believe it or not, ultramel.

More often than not these battles are won by intentionally wasting one’s own expensive items to demonstrate the lack of concern for such material possessions due to the ability to afford more of the same.
