Do not turn a blind eye to crime, says Bethal Police

The community must take action against crime and perpetrators and work with the police.

Bethal Police are concerned that the community is turning a blind eye towards crime that happens in their presence.

The communication officer at Bethal Police Station, Const Thomas Mogadime, said the community must take action against crime and work with the police.

“It is everybody’s responsibility. In most instances crime occurs in front of people who might know the perpetrator, but opt to turn a blind eye,” said Const Mogadime.

He said residents should know the police station number and all emergency numbers by heart.

“The emergency numbers should only be used correctly and parents must teach their children not to make prank calls to the emergency number 10111, because this will block a call from someone who is really in need of police assistance.

“We urge the community to work with the police and not to be afraid to report criminals, because their identity will be protected.”

Incidents that prompted the police to make this statement, relate to thefts out of vehicles in the CBD.

“The perpetrators are known to the car guards, but they did not report the criminals.”
