Sassa reassures beneficiaries
Sassa and the Post Office reached an agreement since the contract with Cash Paymaster Services (CPF) drew to an end.
For the many residents who are dependent on social grants and wary about their livelihood, the South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA) pointed out the following:
- Sassa does not provide financial products such as loans, airtime or electricity.
- The Sassa card will continue to work after the expiry date.
- Beneficiaries will receive their grants beyond March this year.
Sassa and the Post Office reached an agreement since the contract with Cash Paymaster Services (CPF) drew to an end.
The new payment system forms part of the agency’s collaboration with the Post Office to phase out CPS’s services by the end of March.
Ms Bathabile Dlamini, Minister of Social Development, dominated national headlines at one stage last year when no plans were in place to deliver grants to about 17 million people on 1 April.
The Constitutional Court ruled that the CPF contract was invalid in 2013 and a new tender process was ordered.
Chief Justice, Mogoeng Mogoeng, was at the helm of legal proceedings and the date for beneficiaries’ payments to be made was set for 1 April, making for acollective sigh of relief.
