Patient waits 17 hours for treatment at Evander after motorcycle accident

A patient had to wait for more than 12 hours to receive medical treatment at Evander hospital.

Mr Lex Blignaut was allegedly maltreated at Evander Hospital after being involved in a scooter accident.

The accident happened on the evening of Sunday, 7 January and Mr Blignaut was dropped off at Evander Hospital with his brother, Mr Jarrad Ross.

Mr Blignaut was given a drip and asked to wait in the waiting room.

A file was opened for Mr Blignaut, apparently under the name of John Blignaut, and no file was opened for Mr Ross.

He stayed in the waiting room for about 17 hours.

It is alleged that Mr Ross was sent home without being checked.

Mr Blignaut’s sister spoke with the casualty personnel and Mr Blignaut was assisted the following day at 3.30pm.

He was sent home with pain medication and a bloodied face.

Attempts to get comment from the hospital were unsuccessful.
