Council rejects DAs motion for ring fencing

DA councillors’ motion were voted out and council said it must first go to the financial portfolio and be discussed.

The council rejected the DA’s motion for ring fencing at a council meeting on Wednesday, 1 November.

DA councillors’ motion were voted out and council said it must first go to the financial portfolio and be discussed.

According to Mr Tim Denny, DA councillor, it was mentioned at a previous meeting and the ANC Chief Whip then agreed, however when the DA wanted to make it official by putting in a motion, the opposition party wanted to caucus and later voted against the motion.

“We suggested to Eskom to write off the debt older than three years, but they said no,” said Mr Mileham.

The DA opened a case against the Acting Municipal Manager, Mr Thisha Mhlanga, after their march to protest against the Eskom issue on Friday, 3 November.
