Teachookids Youth Information Centre needs help with rebuilding after torching

Centre was set alight during the service delivery violent protest on 16 October.

The Teachookid Youth Information Centre‘s board and staff members in eMbalenhle are calling on people to help them rebuild the centre.

This came after the centre was set alight during the service delivery violent protest on Monday, 16 October.

The centre is situated in the municipal yard in Extension 15 and was set alight.

Mr Edward Letsimo, centre manager, said computers, printers and other office equipment were stolen before the centre was torched.

“We are disappointed with what the community has done to the centre. This centre was helping the youth with various things, such as giving them access to the Internet, typing and printing of CVs. As much as we understand the grievances of the community, we cannot destroy what we will need tomorrow. We now do not know how we are going to rebuild the structure that was donated to us by Sasol.”

Mr Letsimo appealed to the community and businesses to help to rebuild the centre.

He said he hopes the law will take its course and those who have torched the centre, will face prosecution.

He called on the court to have no mercy on them and to give a harsh sentence.

The centre was providing information to people about education and training, employment, self-employment and health and well-being.

It has provided career guidance workshops, career counselling and entrepreneurship workshops to the local youth.

Mr Letsimo said the centre is determined to transform the lives of the youth through information and knowledge.

“We are worried that young people do not have a place where they can get free information.” Contact him at 072 3593984.
