Charl Cilliers Police dismiss constable after he’s charged with attempted robbery

Const Phungwayo was arrested and charged with attempted robbery along with three other suspects in connection with the robbery at Super Sure Bakery on Saturday, 24 June.

Const Smangaliso Phungwayo, who was in service at the Charl Cilliers Police Station, has been dismissed.

“We deemed it fit to dismiss him after an internal investigation,” acting station commander, SJ Zwane, said.

Const Phungwayo was arrested and charged with attempted robbery along with three other suspects in connection with the robbery at Super Sure Bakery on Saturday, 24 June.

He was suspended from duty after the incident.

In a police statement Insp-Brig Leonard Hlathi promised that an internal investigation would be conducted.

” It is devastating that police members are involved, but we will work closely with the community to ensure information is gathered that will help in nabbing all those responsible for orchestrating criminal activities.

” I promise the public that the investigation team will make sure of a watertight case.”
