A teacher of a local high school lost R5 000 after he was scammed by fraudsters.

A teacher of a local high school lost R5 000 after he was scammed by fraudsters.

According to Lt Bettina Zondo, spokesman of Secunda Police Station, the teacher applied for a position in Pretoria and in the advertisement, it stated that applicants should attach their pay slips if they apply outside Gauteng.

“He then sent his pay slip, identity document and CV and a few days later, after his salary was paid in, he noticed R5 000 was withdrawn from his account.”

The teacher went to his bank where he was told he had a personal loan from another bank for R100 000, but he never took out a loan.

Upon further investigation, the police realised the place where he applied for an alleged job as a teacher in Pretoria, scammed him and took out a loan in his name.

The bank cancelled the loan and the police are investigating a case of fraud.

Lt Zondo warned the public to be careful and to check their accounts regularly.
