Bethal Police warn of increase in crime this time of the year

Residents must be prepared for increased housebreakings in the coming festive season.

Residents must be prepared for increased housebreakings in the coming festive season.

Const Thomas Mogadime, spokesman of Bethal Police Station, warned residents that criminals have already begun with activities in the area.

“The most dominating crimes in the area during this time are housebreakings and theft and the strategy the criminals are using is dog poisoning.

“After they have poisoned your dog, they will monitor the dog to see if it is dead so they can gain entry into your house and break in.”

He urged residents to watch out for the following signs of dog poisoning:
* Abnormal behaviour.
* Weakness.
* Drooling.
* Diarrhea.
* Black Terry stools.

Different poisonous substances may affect your dog in different ways, depending on how much they ingested.

“Symptoms of dog poisoning can vary vastly from case to case.”

Const Mogadime urged people to take the following steps should their dogs be poisoned:
· Remove your dog from the area.
· Check to make sure your pet is still breathing.
· Do not give any home antidotes.
· Do not induce vomiting without consulting a vet or pet poison helpline.

Report any suspicious criminal activities at Bethal Police Station at 017 647 9929/30.
