Music 97 takes eMba to the next level

Band from eMbalenhle was trending on social media after their outstanding performance in competition.

Music 97 has gained the hearts of many followers after their appearance on the Vodacom Next Level music competition on the DStv 161 channel on 4 October.

This band from eMbalenhle was trending on social media after their outstanding performance in the competition.

What began as two young men vibing to each other’s sound at a church conference in November 2015, ended with a group of talented young individuals forming a band that has already shared the stage with some of South Africa’s biggest names.

The band consists of four members.

Marcus Mocane (20) is the bassist, Andy Keys (18) is the pianist and vocalist, Khanyi (22) is the vocalist and Thabo Mnisi (18) is the drummer.

They chose the name Music 97 because they all make music 97 per cent of the time.

Individually their sources of inspiration differ.

Marcus gets his motivation from the perseverance and tenacity of those around him and from making great music that moves people.

Andy is inspired by Tank and his father who is his greatest supporter and strength.

Khanyi looks to life’s lessons and challenges to drive him forward and Thabo draws inspiration from his drum teacher, Mr Thabang Motaung, and Mr Chris Coleman who he describes as the best drummer in the world.

“We are grateful for the opportunity given to us by Vodacom Next Level. The support we are receiving from our homies is just amazing. We hope we will win the competition.”

The music show on DStv is a platform where DJs, singers, rappers and bands are able to learn everything about the music industry from South Africa’s top artists.

They will give five talented hopefuls the chance to be mentored by five of South Africa’s biggest music giants during a 10-week masterclass.

The contestants will be coached by Euphonik, Riky Rick, Danny K, DJ Zinhle, and music duo Big Nuz.
