Local aspiring filmmakers schooled by industry greats at CCIFSA breakfast

Matters discussed were the challenges faced by filmmakers and the contribution of the film industry to the GDP of the province.

The Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA) in Mpumalanga working together with 89 Pictures hosted a filmmakers’ breakfast at Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) last Friday.

The core aim of the breakfast was for all up-and-coming local filmmakers across the three district municipalities to come together under one roof to network and acquire much needed industry advice and mentorship from film and television industry leaders from the province who have made it in the film and television industry as a whole.

Matters discussed were the challenges faced by filmmakers, especially in rural municipalities such as GSDM, and the contribution of the film industry to the GDP of the province.

Industry insiders gave presentations on many topics, including how to navigate from when a script is being written to the final product of screening a film.

Insiders included Simon Makwela, who has directed everything from music videos to feature films, and Mncedisi Shabangu, acclaimed theatre and television actor and writer, to name just two.

The breakfasts were held in all three municipalities to have a wider reach and access to filmmakers in the province.
