eMbalenhle suffers serious water problems

The community took their frustration to social media about the serious water problems in eMbalenhle.

A pipe burst left thousands of residents without water on Sunday, 8 October.

Govan Mbeki Municipality said the 500mm water bulk supply pipe to eMbalenhle burst behind the Kinross Mine hostel that left the whole area without water.

Despite the municipality supplying water with water trucks, residents were upset and shared their frustration over the lack of service delivery, on social media.

They accused the municipality of incompetency and disrespect towards the community.

At about 5pm the municipality posted on Facebook that the pipe was fixed and the valve was opened to about 40 per cent to get the air out.

“We will be filling the reservoir while supplying water via the bypass.

“The valve will be opened a bit more after 3 hours.

“The reservoirs are completely empty, it will take a while to fill them up and build pressure in the lines.

“Water tank trucks will continue to supply water until the water is restored in most parts of eMbalenhle,”said the municipality on their Facebook.

However locals did not seem to understand the update and said it was not true that there were trucks supplying water in their sections.

Residents of Extension 15 were still complaining about not having water at time of going to press on Tuesday.

Govan Mbeki Municipality’s water truck supplied water in some parts of eMbalenhle.
