Seven rob Bethal shop of R9 000

One of the suspects apparently discharged a firearm but no one was shot or injured.

Just after opening a store in Bethal for trade on Monday, 18 September at about 9.30am, the owner, employees and customers who were already in the shop were greeted by unknown men who entered the shop and were armed with weapons and ordered everyone to the floor.

The complainant, a Chinese man who owns the Veggie World shop, alleged that seven men entered the shop and one instructed him to take out all the money from the till.

One of the suspects apparently discharged a firearm but no one was shot or injured.
The police were summoned to the scene and upon preliminary investigation, found one live round of ammunition and one cartridge on the scene.

The suspects fled with nine thousand rand and a box of cigarettes, using a white Toyota bakkie/LDV with unkown registration numbers.

“We urge the community to work with the police in order to create a safer environment for everyone by reporting any suspicious people around the CBD and residential areas because crime affects us all,” said Const Thomas Mogadime, Communication and Social Crime Prevention Officer at Bethal SAPS.

Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects, can contact Det Warrant Officer Nico Veldman at 017 647 9929.
