South Africans with no ID’s can still apply for social grants

This comes after noting that many qualifying citizens do not receive social grants due to the fact that they haven’t yet received their ID’s or their ID’s have wrong details.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) request South African citizens who are yet to receive their Identity Documents (ID) to come forward and apply for a Social grant.

This came after noting that many qualifying citizens do not receive social grants due to the fact that they haven’t yet received their ID’s or their ID’s have wrong details such as gender,name,age,surname and ID number.

If one is the victim of the above mentioned points, he or she must come forward to apply at the nearest SASSA offices.

In order to qualify you must first go to the police station to get a sworn affidavit accompanied by one of the following documents as proof of what is written on the affidavit: church baptism certificate, clinic card, previous term report from school, a sworn in statement by a faithful person it can be a social worker, ward councillor, approved traditional healer, or a pastor, who knows the applicant and his or her child, proof from the Department of Home affairs that the applicant has applied for a birth certificate or ID.

Also refugees can apply for social grants using section 24 of the social assistance act or a refugee Identity document.

SASSA urges South Africans that as soon as one gets his or her ID, they must go back to the nearest SASSA office to update his or her profile.

SASSA Mpumalanga would like to warn applicants who give wrong information to SASSA during the application process that they may be prosecuted.

SASSA provides 8 types of grants namely, grant for older persons (R1600), disability grant (R1600), war veterans grant (R1620), care dependency grant (R1600), foster child grant (R920), child support grant (R380), grant in aid (R380) and social relief of distress.
