Service delivery reaches Enyibe

The interdepartmental programme steered by the DSD Families Forum targeted the community of Nyibe, because they live within the poverty line due to unemployment, lack of documents such as IDs and birth certificates and no social grants.

The Department of Social Development (DSD), Msukaligwa sub-district office, hosted a service delivery outreach programme in Enyibe last Tuesday.

The interdepartmental programme steered by the DSD Families Forum targeted the community of Nyibe, because they live within the poverty line due to unemployment, lack of documents such as IDs and birth certificates and no social grants.

The area has a high rate of teenage pregnancy, child neglect cases, domestic violence and crime which prompted various government departments and civil society organisations to address these social ills.

Nyibe based NGOs received home-based care kits donated by Gert Sibande District Municipality’s Ms Cynthia Mkhwanazi.

Departments present included Ermelo Police, Department of Home Affairs, Sassa and Brothers for Life (a men’s health programme), to name but a few.

“The reason why we bring these services to the community of Nyibe is because the land these residents reside on is privately owned, so it is quite difficult for them to receive service delivery,” said chairman of the Families Forum in GSDM and director of Sun of Joy Foundation, Mr Mvula ka Mnisi.

The community came in numbers, queuing up to make use of the services on offer.

“We are suffering to make ends meet while our children do not have birth certificates, meaning they will not get social grants. Sassa and the Department of Home affairs being here will help us a lot,” said one resident.

Mr Mnisi urged the community at large to educate themselves on their basic rights and take full advantage by making sure they receive those rights. The outreach programme was also in honour of Mandela Month.
