Follow-up: Broken pipe in Gen Kemp Street in Secunda still gives problems

Rubber shifted overnight and needs to be prepared.

Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA Ward 5 councillor, said the water supply may be switched off for short period today.

This is because a rubber shifted during the night and needs to be repaired.

A main water supply pipe burst in Generaal Kemp Street on 28 June.

Govan Mbeki Municipal workers started repairs on the pipe at 3pm yesterday afternoon.

The municipality updated the community through their Facebook page last night and said due to the large number of electrical cables around the burst pipe, repairs could not continue through the night.

This morning the workers are back on site, and are pumping water from the hole they dug yesterday before they can start the repair process.

The pipe is part of the water supply system for half of Secunda and residents have been without water since the early hours of yesterday morning.
