One dies, 22 injured as car and minibuses collide

One man was killed and 22 others were injured when two minibuses and a light motor vehicle collided on the R546 outside Secunda Sunday evening.

One man was killed and 22 others were injured when two minibuses and a light motor vehicle collided on the R546 outside Secunda Sunday evening.

ER24 paramedics had come across this incident at approximately 6pm while they were on their way to another call.

Langamed South Ambulance Services also attended to the accident.

One minibus and the light motor vehicle were found in the road, while the second minibus was found a short distance away on the side of the road.

When paramedics inspected the light motor vehicle, they found one man lying trapped inside.

He had already succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene.
Two other men in the same vehicle were in a critical condition.
A third critically injured man was found in one of the other minibuses.
Paramedics extricated the patients, treated them and provided them with advanced life support interventions.
ER24 and Langamed South Ambulance Services transported the critically injured patients to hospital.
Twenty other passengers from both minibuses, who had sustained minor to moderate injuries, were examined and treated before being transported to various hospitals for further treatment.
One of the critically injured patients was airlifted by the ER24 OnePlan Helicopter to a nearby hospital.
The cause of the accident is still unknown, but local authorities were on the scene and will be investigating.
