To all residents in the Govan Mbeki Municipal area, please be aware that there is an out break of PARVO VIRUS, ( cat flu.)

This is a killer disease that can affect ALL dogs that are not vaccinated and maybe even some that have been vaccinated.

DO NOT take the risk if your dogs have the symptoms. Get it to your vet as fast as possible.

The symptoms the dogs are presenting at the moment are:

1. Depression and subdued behaviour
2. Vomiting
3. Mild bloody diarrhoea

These can rapidly escalate to full on vomitting and diarrhoea.

You need to take your dog to your VET as soon as any of these symptoms are present to give your dog a chance of survival. This disease is a killer if the animal is not nursed carefully.

We urge dog owners to ensure that their pets’ vaccinations are up to date and that all puppies are vaccinated at 6 weeks.

The bug can be carried on clothing, shoes, and bedding. It is transferred through feaces. Also wash your hands throroughly if you have touched a strange dog, before handling your dog.

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR VETERINARIAN FOR MORE INFORMATION ON PARVO VIRUS
