eMbalenhle man in court for allegedly murdering his girlfriend

It was alleged that on 29 May, Mr Masego was seen dragging the deceased’s body from his room and hid it behind the outside toilet.

Mr Evans Katlego Masego from eMbalenhle appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Ms Nompumelelo Augustine Mahlangu.

During his court appearance on Thursday, 8 June, the Democratic Alliance and Velile Victims Empowerment Centre were picketing outside the court and demanded that Mr Masego is rearrested after he was released on bail.

Mr Masego was arrested after his girlfriend was found dead in his house.

It was alleged that on 29 May, Mr Masego was seen dragging the deceased’s body from his room and hid it behind the outside toilet.

He was asked by the neighbours why he was dragging the body and he took the body and locked it in his room.

Neighbours called the police who broke down a door and found the body.

Protesters demanded to know why he was released on bail.

The suspect was also accused of sending threatening SMSs to witnesses and Ms Mahlangu’s friends.

The protesters also wanted to know what happened to the fetus, because Ms Mahlangu was pregnant at the time of her death.

“The last time he beat her up, she lost her baby,” said a family member who confessed Ms Mahlangu was in an abusive relationship.
