A woman died at the Evander taxi rank at about 10.30am today after visiting Evander Hospital.

She went to Leandra Clinic yesterday where the nurses referred her to Evander Hospital.

She left the wheelchair at the gate where the two women got into a taxi to go to the taxi rank.

“The taxi driver was concerned over my mother’s health and arranged with the Leandra driver to check how far he was because he had a passenger who was in a critical condition,” said the woman.

On their arrival at the taxi rank they got into a Leandra taxi.

The mother complained of feeling hot and requested to be taken outside the taxi.

“She sat down and after some time the driver became worried and summoned an ambulance.

When the paramedics arrived, they certified her dead on the scene.

The daughter said she does not blame the hospital and said her mother could have died at the hospital.

She was worried though about why her mother was discharged while she was very ill.

Evander Hospital was asked for comment about the reason why the clinic referred the woman to the hospital but was treated as an outpatient.

The hospital could not respond and referred the newspaper to the Mpumalanga Department of Health.
