Voice message about kidnapping could be fake

"We are calling on the source of this message to come forward, maybe it could help police with investigation."

A voice message of a woman warning parents about men who are targeting girls, have stirred fear among parents.

In the message the woman said earlier today a pupil from Allen Makhunga Primary School was kidnapped by unknown men.

She said the girl was with two other children who managed to escape and report the incident.

However police said they are investigating the message that is circulating, but no case was reported to them.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said only one case of kidnapping and sexual assault was reported today.

He said a 12-year-old girl was on her way to school in Extension 12 with her young sister when an unknown man confronted them.

He said the man took the 12-year-old to an open field in Extension 5 where he allegedly sexually assaulted the girl.

The girl managed to escape and returned to school.

“This is the only incident reported to police and police are investigating.

“About the message that is circulating, it remains unfounded.

“We are calling on the source of this message to come forward, maybe it could help police with investigation.”
