Another Evander Hospital doctor is suspended over alleged negligence

The Mpumalanga Department of Health has confirmed that a doctor from Evander Hospital has been given a a precautionary suspension for negligence.

Mr Dumisani Malamule, provincial spokesman for the Department, said the department can not provide other information because the case is still under investigation.

A reliable source told the Echo that in the past week an official from the National Department of Health went to Evander Police Station to open a criminal case against the doctor.

Sgt Sibusiso Mbuli, Evander Police spokesman, confirmed that the department visited the police station, however no case was opened.

He said because they are still collecting evidence, an inquiry was launched.

“We can not open a case because there is no evidence at this stage.

“It is alleged that the doctor did not follow the required standard procedure in conducting an operation.”

Two Evander Hospital doctors were suspended in 2015 after they allegedly conducted a C-section in a normal ward and a teenage mother and her child had died as a result.
