Mob justice leads to arrest of victims

Three men rescued from an angry mob are arrested for housebreaking.

Three males were arrested and appeared in court briefly after being rescued by police from angry community members at KwaZanele in Breyten last Sunday, 23 April.

They are accused by the community of burglaries in the Breyten area.

Spokesman for the Breyten Police, Sgt Thabo Mashegoane, confirmed the incident, saying two males aged between 20 and 35, were arrested with a third person later arrested at his house.

They face charges of housebreaking and theft and their case has been postponed to Friday, pending an investigation.

The acting station commander, W/O Joseph Ndlangamandla, urges the community not to take the law into their own hands, but to report to or call the police for assistance.
