Marikana Section residents are protesting outside the eMbalenhle Police Station against the high crime rate in the area.

They say crime is too high in the area and the police are doing nothing.

Locals say shoot-outs by Basotho foreign nationals happen daily.

The leadership of the protesters are having a meeting with the police station management.

Mr Mandla Mbatha, community leader, is leading the talks.

He is telling the station management that murder is the order of the day in the area and police are doing nothing.

He says suspects are arrested but are on the street in three days.

“Several murder suspects and robbers are walking freely in the community.

“Illegal miners who are in the country illegally are also walking free.

“What are the police doing about it?”

The community leaders are also raising their concerns about illegal travels and the rise of gangsterism in the area.

They are demanding that the management call the provincial commissioner immediately.

“We have lost trust in you.

“We request that you call Province because we want to talk to them.”
