The police appealed to the community to come forward with information that might help to to apprehend those involved.

BETHAL – A local supermarket owner was robbed of R180 000 when he went to the bank to deposit money to pay a supplier on 12 April.

He wanted to deposit this large sum of money before the long weekend when he was intercepted by two men at the door to the bank at about 2pm.

According to the victim, the men stood at the door and one appeared to have been a security guard and the other one was a slender, short man with dreadlocks.

The man with the dreadlocks, who was armed with a handgun, grabbed the victim’s bag and fled in a white Quantum bakkie with false GP number plates.

“This incident should act as a warning to business owners to not carry large sums of money and not to go to the bank alone,” said Const Thomas Mogadime, Bethal Police spokesman.

The police appealed to the community to come forward with information that might help to apprehend those involved.

Anyone with information, can contact Bethal Police at 017 647 9930.
