Reconciliation Commission visits Ermelo

The community of Wesselton was identified by the TRC as having suffered intense acts of violence and destruction during the conflict period.

The Truth and Reconciliation Council (TRC) team will be visiting Ermelo on Saturday. This comes after the community of Wesselton was identified by the TRC as having suffered intense acts of violence and destruction during the conflict period.

The TRC made a number of recommendations to the president, where among others he approved the establishment of rehabilitation projects in communities that were subjected to intense acts of violence and destruction.

Although the TRC does not exist anymore, it was however established in the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (Doj& CD) to coordinate and monitor the implementation of the TRC recommendations.

A partnership was entered into by the TRC and the Independent Development Trust (IDT) to ensure the implementation of community rehabilitation measures in certain communities.

The TRC and IDT will be meeting with the community of Wesselton to discuss which project will be most beneficial to the community. The community is encouraged to participate fully and share their views so that decisions made would benefit everyone.

The TRC community dialogue will be held on Saturday at Thuthukani Hall at 10:00.
