Deputy Minister visits GS College

Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Deputy Minister Mr Obed Bapela visited the Gert Sibande TVET College

EVANDER – Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Deputy Minister, Mr Obed Bapela, visited the Gert Sibande TVET College in Evander on Saturday, 25 February as part of the Education Imbizo Programme.

He was joined by Messrs Nhlakanipho Zuma, Speaker of Council, Mr Themba Morajane, Ward 2 Councillor, Mr Mabula Daniel Nhlapo, PR Councillor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, and staff from the college.

Mr Bapela interacted with students and talk about the importance of education for a developing South Africa.

The Imbizo was held under the theme Together we Move South Africa Forward: Making our future work.

Government embarked on the National Development Plan (NDP) Back-to-school Izimbizo to send a clear message that South Africa is serious about education and it is at the apex of government priorities.

The NDP Post SoNA Back-to-School Imbizo calls for the implementation of a joint national initiative.

It was envisaged that members of Cabinet will lead district based Imbizo activations to engage citizens on issues in the education sector.

The NDP envisions a South Africa where everyone has access to education of the highest quality, leading to significantly improved outcomes and a

prosperous life.

The NDP identifies improving education, training and innovation as some of the key elements in creating a better and more prosperous South Africa by 2030.

The attainment of vision 2030 requires a special focus on quality childhood development, basic education and higher education and training.
