Elderly stand in queue at Clinic for up to eight hours

Residents are dissatisfied with the long queues and the shortage of staff at the clinic.

KINROSS – The clinic situated next to Sasolia Primary School in Thistle Grove caters for Kinross town, Thistle Grove, Afghanistan and Marikana.

Residents are dissatisfied with the long queues and the shortage of staff at the clinic.

The clinic moved from the old building to the new structure that is very small.

“They should provide chairs at the old building and let us sit there,” said a local, who added they sit outside even in hot and cold weather.

The elderly who collect their medication, are apparently standing in the queue for up to eight hours.

Locals said only one person is working in the administration department, which delays the process as people have to wait for her to look for their files and to capture the data on the computer.

“The clinic should use the old building for the collection of medication by the elderly or come up with a better strategy,” said a resident.

Another local said when they complain about the long queues and the shortage of space at the clinic, they are told to write letters of complaints and to put them in the suggestion box.

Ms Nonceba Masilela from the Department of Health in Govan Mbeki Municipality, said residents’ concerns are valid.

“We appreciate your input and we want to ensure improved care in our communities, specifically the community of Kinross.

“Your concerns are receiving attention and you will receive feedback as soon as possible,” said Ms Masilela.
